7 O’Block…

The Block has got me hooked.  I love it.  Four couples run-ragged renovating houses that are within an inch of total dereliction.  Planning, game play, scheming, stressing…perfect reality TV.  I can’t decide yet which couple I’m backing as odds on favourite and it’s a shame the Perth couple didn’t make it through, but it’s a tough world in reality.

The first room reveal is coming up tonight and I can’t wait to see who gets my vote.  Our own experience of building was one of the most stressful and horrible times of our life, but it’s done and I’m not sure I’d do it again!  I love following the couples design and renovating process from scratch, because if you’ve ever done it, you’ll know how hard it is to visualise anything from nothing.  I am totally jealous they have such great furniture stores over East though, it makes the job a whole lot more fun.

My own house is still very much a blank canvas on the decorating front nearly 3 years after moving in.  Getting a space right takes time, takes good finds, a good budget, great inspiration and lots of rearranging (something which I tend to do all the time, still).  I did however make one purchase of late that I feel the need to share and I have to say, it’s a tad embarrassing, because it’s a cushion!  I know.  I loved the colours and the slightly 80′s pattern going on, and well I just couldn’t leave it behind. Here it is kicking back catching some rays!

Hmmm, what do you think?  Love it or hate it? Either way, watch the block on channel 9 for real interior inspiration (and get set to ignore the completely irritating and OTT product placements and plugs).

Back to school….cool

School started back today and I feel like I can breathe a huge sign of relief.  My little guy was not very impressed this morning to have me near strangle him with a tie, a totally foreign object to him, but goddamn he looked so handsome in it and I can’t believe that only 2 days ago I did actually want to strangle him.  Lucky they’re so cute.  One of my school mums has put me to shame though, she was actually sad and sorry to see her boys head back to school, and she has 3 of them….I can’t help but wonder what on earth is wrong with me?

Just to finish off my little Perth pictorial (and if you haven’t seen these on Instagram), a few more snaps taken around town (mostly the Northbridge area) these last few weeks.

A little Monday eve dreaming…

After nearly 3 weeks of school holidays, which for the most part have been driving me bonkers and after yelling at my kids again this morning for like the billionth time, I find myself dreaming momentarily of a time back in Galway, Ireland BC (before children).  The place of my birth, early childhood, family, heritage and the place hubby and I got hitched and spent some blissful time way back when it all seemed a lot easier.

My post today was going to be a little bit about what we did during the holidays, some pictures of cooking in the kitchen with the kids (which despite what others may have you believe, is not FUN….yes I am holiday fatigued), and certain other outings we’ve had and friends we’ve caught up with .  The kids have had fun and I’ve enjoyed sleeping in and lazing around the house, but really, I’m just so relieved its nearly over.

In memory of that quieter time BC when you could just go off and DIY, and maybe shack up in a fancy hotel for a night on a whim, I’m taking a little day-dreamer trip back to Galway and shacking up here, the g Hotel.  It wasn’t there back in 2005, but if it was I think I might have liked to stay.  I have a thing for hotels, really amazing and luxurious ones, that I can only ever aspire to experience (so fickle in the big picture, but I’m Taurean).  Wouldn’t it be nice, just for a moment.

Philip Treacy worked on the design of the g, it’s artistic, impressionable and ever so bright.

Friday foodie…

If you happen to be entertaining this weekend, then perhaps you might like to consider these.  It’s a very easy, very yummy little dish which my girlfriend first served up at her Enjo party and then our annual girls Chrissy lunch last year. They were unbelievably good and not a Theromix in sight.

Little Cherry Tomato Bocconcini Morsels
1 punnet of cherry tomatoes washed (get little ones, not the bigger ones – purely for aesthetics) – bambini bocconcici – a few pitted kalamata olives – a bunch of fresh basil – balsamic glaze (shop bought) – toothpicks

And all you do is:
Stick 1 cherry tomato on a toothpick, followed by a little piece of torn basil, followed by a little piece of torn olive, followed by a baby bocconcini, followed by a little bit of torn basil and another little piece of olive.

Keep going until you’ve made all that you need and place on a platter or serving dish.

Just before you serve them, drizzle them with the Balsamic glaze and little olive oil if you like.

They are a winner and a sinch. Thank you Bec!
